Trade and climate are the strategic fields of global policies where the European Union is displaying strong leadership. Through its Green Deal, the Paris Agreement and the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the EU’s new diplomacy brings together civil society, NGOs, corporates, think tanks and foundations to reinforce multilateral and rule-based agreements that set it apart from other global powers.

Overview of the Academic Year

Live in Rome, Berlin and Nice and learn how Climate and Trade Policies are the major instruments of transnational relations in the 21st Century.

The Joint Master in EU Trade & Climate Diplomacy is a one-year programme that takes place in three different cities:

October to January: Rome (Italy)
The programme starts in Rome, on the campus of Luiss School of Government. Courses will give an introduction to the EU Governance, focusing on the context and challenges of European Foreign Action and policy in the 21st century.

February to April: Berlin (Germany)
The programme continues in Berlin, in the CIFE premises. Teaching will be concentrating on EU Climate Diplomacy and its ambition to climate leadership in the context of the EU Green Deal.
study trip to a diplomatic hub such as Brussels gives insight knowledge into EU Diplomacy and interaction with high-level lecturers, experts and diplomats.

Studying in Berlin, one of the most dynamic and inspiring cities of the 21st Century, helps students to investigate how far the EU has a strong political voice and expresses its economic power through its support of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Declaration and its political initiatives such as the Green Deal. Meetings with seasoned experts in EU economic diplomacy will be organised.

April to July: Nice (France)
Courses conclude in Nice, in CIFE's main premises. A special focus will be laid on EU Trade & Investment Diplomacy. Students will attend courses on Trade Diplomacy, External Investment for SDGs, AI, Big Data and Digitalised Governance, Innovative Forms of Collaborative Action in the Digital society. As part of their academic requirements, students will complete a final master thesis.

Studying in Nice recognised as one of the most advanced Smart Cities helps students to understand how digital services and network, Artificial Intelligence and big data are the new frontier of globalisation and represent the most dynamically growing part of world exchanges. New forms of cooperation agreements may enable countries in their policy space to promote renewable energy, to safeguard universal coverage of education and healthcare, and to pursue inclusive development goals.
