The EU has a strategic interest in a stable and secure environment in the Eastern Mediterranean and in the development of a cooperative and mutually beneficial relationship with Turkey.  Ongoing tensions between Greece and Turkey pose new challenges that need to be peacefully addressed, in accordance with international law.
CIFE joins the debate by organising a virtual discussion on Safeguarding stability in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The virtual discussion takes place on 29 October from 6 to 7 pm.
Participation is cost-free. Registration is compulsory.

The discussion will be moderated by Nektaria Stamouli.
Nektaria is a reporter based in Athens, covering Greece and the broader region for Politico Europe and foreign affairs and geopolitics for Athens News Agency. She was previously the region's correspondent for the Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones Newswires, covering the Greek and Cypriot debt crisis, as well as the European migration crisis.
Before joining the WSJ, Nektaria worked as both a business and general news reporter for Greek media -print, online and TV. She studied Communications, Media and Culture at Panteion University in Athens and holds a Master’s degree in International Journalism from City University, London. 

Ali Cinar
A Turkish-American, Ali Cinar has dedicated much of his life to Turkish American causes and worked for many top Turkish-American organizations based in Washington, DC. He is a lecturer at Istanbul Aydin University at the Institute of Social Sciences. He is a credentialed reporter with the White House, United Nations and the U.S. State Department and has an extensive record of publications. Ali Cinar testified at the U.S. Congress on Foreign Affairs Sub-Committee in 2016 and 2017. He has earned a number of accolades including Leader of the Year by the Assembly of Turkish American Association and in 2019 he was awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
 

Mathias Jopp
Prof Dr Mathias Jopp studied Economics and Political Science at the University of Gießen and the University of Frankfurt. He holds a PhD in Political Science. He is Senior Advisor International Programmes of the Institut für Europäische Politik (IEP) in Berlin, and member of the editorial boards of the quarterly “integration”, “Zeitschrift für Außen- und Sicherheitspolitik” and of CIFE's “L'Éurope en formation”. Mathias Jopp teaches at CIFE and at the Eberhard Karls University Tübingen. Areas of interest: European security studies and foreign policy of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Bruno Tertrais
Bruno Tertrais is Deputy Director of the Fondation pour la Recherche Stratégique. His areas of expertise include geopolitics and international relations, strategic and military affairs, nuclear deterrence and non-proliferation, US policy and transatlantic relations, security in the Middle East and in Asia. Previous positions: Senior Research Fellow at FRS (2001-16); Special Assistant to the Director of Strategic Affairs, French MoD (1993-01) and Visiting at the RAND Co (1995-96); Director of the Civilian Affairs Committee at the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (1990-93).

George Tzogopoulos
Dr George N. Tzogopoulos is an expert in media, international relations and Chinese affairs. He is the Director of EU-China Programmes at the Centre international de formation européenne (CIFE) and Senior Fellow as well as Lecturer at the European Insititute affiliated with it. He also teaches International Relations at the Department of Law of the Democritus University of Thrace and is a Fellow at the Begin Sadat Center for Strategic Studies (BESA), where he is, inter alia, organising its online debates on several international themes.
