A January Full of Visits in Tunis

Spending a term in Tunis not only offers the MAEIS Mediterranean Studies students the opportunity to study in a North African country, but it also allows them to gain a deeper insight into the cultural and political workings of Tunisia through a series of visits to official institutions and cultural sites, organised by our partner Mahmoud El Materi University.

The term kicked off with a visit of the Medina, discovering the importance of its cultural and historical heritage. The students wandered through the souks and other residential areas, before taking a break to taste some local specialities at Café Mrabet, the oldest in the medina.

Next they met the Ambassador of France in Tunisia, Mme Anne Guéguen, who delved deeper into the various axes of cooperation between the two countries and answered questions about education, sport and diplomatic relations.

More recently, a visit to the National Military Museum enabled the students to learn more about Tunisia’s military history in an exceptional setting.

Thank you to the Mahmoud El Materi University for organising these enriching excursions and to all the organisations that have welcomed our students throughout their first month!
