This online debate is reserved exclusively for current CIFE students and Alumni.
On the occasion of Pride Month, CIFE is organising a discussion animated by several CIFE Alumni on current political developments for LGBTQ+ people in Europe.
The online debate will focus on three countries in particular, in which anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric has recently been used to introduce anti-LGBTQ+ policies: Turkey, Hungary and Poland. First, we will make a brief inventory of Turkish legislation and its evolution from the second half of the 19th century and then analyse the evolution of discourse by the current Turkish government since it first came to power and what factors - political or otherwise - have influenced this change. Second, we will elaborate on the relationship between populist discourse and disinformation campaigns against LGBTQ+ people, drawing parallels between the situations in Hungary, Poland and Turkey.
The debate will be followed by a Q&A session.
