On 8 December, we bid farewell to Bruno Boissière, who retired after 17 years as the Director of CIFE’s Representation in Brussels.
At CIFE, Bruno’s main task was to represent the interests of our organisation at the European institutions, identify key players, follow the decision-making processes and intervene, if necessary. Bruno also designed and organised around fifty “CIFE Lunchtime Debates” with key actors from the political and scientific world in Brussels, on topics such as federalism, European governance, energy transition and Euro-Mediterranean relations. The last “CIFE Lunchtime Debate” organised by Bruno in November 2022 with Commissioner Mariya Gabriel was a great success and gathered around 70 people, among them decision-makers from European institutions, representatives of academic federations and NGOs. Also worth mentioning are Bruno’s activities with our Alumni based in Belgium, supporting study trips, conferences and other activities in Brussels.
To wish him well, 19 CIFE Alumni of the Brussels/Belgium regional group met for drinks after work at the Kamilou restaurant, in the European district. 14 classes were represented, with graduates from 1979 to 2022.
The meeting was a great moment of conviviality and networking and also allowed the setting up of a steering team to guarantee the continuity of the regional group of alumni. The team will consist of (in alphabetical order):
• Alicia Bellon Moral (Joint Master in EU Trade and Climate Diplomacy, 2020/21)
• Emma Demoulin (Global Studies, 2021/22)
• Tamara Gómez-Sánchez (Global Studies, 2017/18)
• Ikram Jabri (Mediterranean Studies, 2021/22)
The distribution of roles within the team and the definition of priority activities will be carried out soon.
We wish the 4 dynamic team members every success in their initiatives to continue to keep the spirit and values of CIFE alive within the community of nearly 200 Alumni living in Brussels and its surroundings.
