European Council Summit in Nice: 5-6 December 2022
After two days of intensive negotiating and debates about the future of the EU, we're pleased to announce that an agreement was reached between all member states, despite abstentions from Hungary and Poland! On the agenda for this summit were social policy and migration policy. The second day was particularly tense, with notable tensions between the Danish, German and Hungarian delegations on the subject of migration policy. It was a close call, with the wording of the agreement almost causing a Hungarian veto.
This was a great opportunity for our students of the MAEIS Applied European Policy and Governance Studies and MAEIS Mediterranean Studies programmes to put into practice the negotiation techniques they learnt last month.
Many thanks to planpolitik for organising this event for our students, who all fully assumed their roles as heads of state and chief negotiators!
