Mediterranean Study Trip to Dakar
CIFE has been present in Northern Africa for several years now, with one trimester of the Master in Advanced European and International Studies - Mediterranean Studies held in Tunis.
However, this year for the first time, a three-week study trip to Dakar, Senegal was organised for the students of this programme, in collaboration with our partner Sup De Co Dakar, a state-approved higher education institution that accompanies the evolution of African societies in the context of globalisation.
The students discovered the real constraints of the challenges of development, the objectives of development aid, but also the common issues between Africa and Europe in fields as varied as the security of people and territories, the demographic and migration issue, climate issues, post-Covid health security and economic cooperation agreements.
In addition to lectures and a round table, the students also took part in institutional visits and met important figures such as the Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to Senegal, Irène Mingasson.
Furthermore, cultural visits were also organised to enable students to immerse themselves in the culture of the Sub-Saharan country. One of the highlights was a visit to the Ile de Gorée, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in memory of what used to be the largest slave trading centre in Africa, from where many Africans were exported as slaves.
