Violetta Manukyan (Petrosyan) is a full-time lecturer and a PhD student in International Relations at Yerevan Brusov State University of Languages and Social Sciences (YSULS), and the UNESCO Chair on Human Rights, Democracy and European Studies. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in pedagogy in the field of “Foreign Language and Literature” (English) and Master’s degree in International relations at YSULS. She worked as a chair assistant between 2012 and 2014 and since 2013 she has been working as a lecturer at YSULS UNESCO Chair on Human Rights, Democracy and European Studies. Violetta is lecturing courses on state-building and integration, comparative politics, political analysis and forecast, quantitative and qualitative research methods, international organizations and post-conflict state-building. Her fields of interest are: the processes of post-conflict state-building and stateness, the connection between the international recognition and the stateness level of the states, issues of state sovereignty and state legitimacy, war-torn societies, and the the role and impact of international organizations on state-building and stateness.

Doctoral thesis

Topic: “The Challenges and Perspectives of Stateness of Non-Recognized States of Post-Soviet Space”

Supervisor: Prof. Dr Tigran Torosyan

Abstract:

This doctoral project studies the challenges and perspectives of stateness of unrecognized post-Soviet states, the disclosure of which is of exceptional significance not only for the studied countries, but also for achieving regional and international peace and security. Therefore, the study puts forward the following research questions: what is the condition of stateness of the non-recognized states of post-Soviet space and what impact has (or does not have) the non-recognized status on their stateness level. In order to fully scrutinize the topic various methods such as: case-study, cluster and comparative analysis, inductive and deductive, qualitative and quantitative methods of analysis, factor and path analysis, cross-temporal comparison will be implemented within the study.
